The woman has been hospitalised after being hit on her chest and kicked on abdomen last night while she was standing outside a hotel in Gudalur, about 70 km from here, they said.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim's husband, Nilgiris District Superintendent of police Senthilkumar ordered the suspension of the policemen -- Rajkumar and Naganagendran, police said.
According to the complainant, the policemen allegedly under the influence of liquor had teased the woman and when she started screaming one of them hit her on chest and kicked on abdomen.
Condemning the attack, local leaders of almost all political parties petitioned the District Collector seeking immediate action against the erring policemen, said to be posted on anti-Naxal duty.
