According to police, Naurangi, a mother of five, was found dead behind Nai-Mandi cremation ground here on April 25.
District administration has refused to comment on the issue and said they were waiting for viscera report of the woman to confirm the cause behind the death.
But people of her tribe in Gadiya Lohar area said the woman and her family were living a "beggar's life" and she died of 'bhukh' (starvation). The district administration has provided a cash relief of Rs 10,000 and a bag of foodgrain to the bereaved family, a Collectorate official said.
"The assistance was provided as per the need," he said.
70-year-old chief ('mukhiya') of Lohar Basti, Shaitan Singh, said the woman is survived by husband and five children and she died of 'bhookh' (starvation).
"Earlier, the woman had lost her legs in an accident and now probably died of 'bhookh' which the district administration denied," Singh said.
