Deepak Kumar approached police with a complaint that jewellery and Rs 9.57 lakh in cash had been stolen from his house, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ishwar Singh.
In the complaint, he said that on the evening of May 7, he along with his wife had gone to their relative's house in Laxmi Nagar for dinner.
When they came back the next day, they found that the locks of their house and almirah were intact but cash and jewellery articles had been stolen.
Police questioned the relatives of the complainant, neighbours and security guards. They also examined the CCTV footage from the surrounding area and the needle of suspicion pointed towards one Shabnam, maternal aunt of Deepak's wife.
A raid was conducted at Shabnam's house in Laxmi Nagar today and stolen cash, gold and silver jewellery articles were recovered from there following which she was arrested.
Shabnam told police that she knew that there was huge amount of cash kept in Deepak's house.
Shabnam left her house on the pretext of taking her maid for a doctor's visit and asked the couple to stay at her house till she returns.
She burgled their house in Khirki Extension and went back to Laxmi Nagar late night and asked the couple to stay at her home overnight.
