A 22-year-old woman and her paramour allegedly murdered her two minor children in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district, police said today.
Manju alias Tasleema Khan was arrested yesterday for strangling her four-year-old son Eid Mohammad and daughter Sabeena (one year) with the help of her male friend Koyo Alias Amrit in Jaria villgae near Jashpur town, a police official told PTI.
Both the children were murdered on June 27 this year, he said adding that the accused woman confessed to committing the crime and narrated the sequence of events to police.
According to police, Tasleema had fallen in love with Koyo a few months back when her husband Rabool Ansari went to jail in connection with a case. A few days later, Koyo and she decided to eliminate her children.
"On June 27 evening, the duo took the two children to a 'Smriti Van' located on the outskirts of Jashpur on the pretext of going for an outing. Later, they smothered the minors to death and then threw the body of the boy in a ditch and that of the girl into a well," the official said.
After the crime, the duo escaped to Delhi. After about a week's stay there, they returned to Jashpur, he said.
However, last week Tasleem lodged a complaint of rape against her paramour, following which he was arrested, the official said.
Meanwhile, family members of Tasleema's husband complained to the police that her children had gone "missing" stating that they had not seen the kids with her for a long time.
"Following this, Tasleema was rounded up for questioning, during which she admitted killing the children with the help of Koyo," he said.
The decomposed body of her son was recovered from a ditch in Smriti Van area while search was on for her daughter's remains in the well, he said.
Koyo (30) was already arrested and sent to jail in another case, he said.
A case has been registered against the duo in this connection, he said, adding further probe is on.
