With the cause of death of a woman and 7-year-old girl at a city hotel remaining 'uncertain', the police is awaiting more tests which would ascertain the alleged cause of the murder besides performing DNA tests on the two bodies to clarify whether the woman was the mother of the child.
The cause of deaths in a city hotel on Tuesday remained uncertained as the post-mortem reports were inconclusive, police said today.
The reports of the histopathological tests were being awaited to ascertain the cause of the deaths, Kolkata Police official said, adding neither of the bodies had any external or internal injuries.
Police would also perform DNA tests on the two bodies to clarify whether the woman was the mother of the child, officials said.
The woman and the girl had checked into the hotel on Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road on Monday along with a man, who had registered them as his family.
The post-mortem reports suggests that the two had died approximately three to four hours after consuming food, the Kolkata Police officer said, adding that the time of their death could be sometime between from 6 PM on Monday to 6 AM the next day.
Asked whether the duo were electrocuted after they fell asleep on consuming foods laced with sleeping pills, the officer said, "We suspect that they were electrocuted because of the portion where the copper wires were tied to the bodies."
Meanwhile, two teams of Kolkata Police have left for Bihar's Nalanda district, which was mentioned in the register as their home, in search of the absconding man, he said.
Though CCTV footage at the hotel and the photograph on the voter identity card of the man - who wrote his name as Shambhunath Gupta has matched partially, police were yet to confirm the person's actual identity.
The trio had checked into the hotel on Monday morning at 8 AM. The man had paid Rs 2,000 for the room, the rent of which was for Rs 1,800 for a 24-hour-stay, police said.
They had ordered breakfast, which they had in their room. They had lunch but there was no order for dinner from them, the police officer added.
