Woman thrown into canal by family for wanting to marry lover

A 23-year-old woman, who wanted to marry a man against the wishes of her parents, was allegedly thrown into Ganga canal here by her family members, police said today.
The woman, a resident of Nirgajni village, had an affair with a man and they wanted to get married against the wishes of her parents. Her family members yesterday took her to the canal and threw her into it. However, she was rescued by some villagers, they said.
A case has been registered against her father and brother under relevant sections of IPC. They are absconding, police said.
