In an official release, the Commission condemned the incident and asked the DGP and SSP to take immediate steps.
A team from the Commission, comprising its Chairperson Meera Barooah and members Sudha Srivastava and Monalisa Chowdhury, visited the Azara locality after local media started reporting the incident.
The Commission also expressed its serious concern over rising incidents of women harassment in Guwahati.
The release said the Commission met the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court and urged to try all such cases in fast track courts.
Angry people from the area and Guwahati, besides various women organisations, gheraoed the Azara police station demanding the alleged four culprits be handed over to them to be "punished for raping and killing the two women".
City Senior Superintendent of Police A P Tiwari, however, said one of the accused his confessional statement had said that the two women died due to a road accident.
