The Punjab government is taking various steps to ensure this, Jail Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur said.
Inmates will be free to meet their husbands inside the jails from 8 PM to 9:30 PM.
Special arrangements will be made in the evening for the 'katha' in jails and arrangement for food and tea would be made after the fast is completed, the minister said.
Meanwhile, women across Punjab celebrated Karva Chauth with much gaiety.
Markets wore a festive look and women were dressed in their bridal finery. Several men also fasted to give company to their wives, mothers and sisters.
