Women lose an average of more than 2kg in the first month after being dumped by a lover, a new research claims.
The survey found that women are likely to shed at least 6kg in case they stay single for a year after the end of a long-term relationship.
Around half the respondents (46 per cent) said they lost weight after a big break-up due to "emotional upheaval" causing a drop in their appetites, 'Daily Express' reported.
Almost the same number (47 per cent) said they lost weight as they wanted to look more attractive.
And two-thirds (68 per cent) said they had lost weight after a partner broke up a serious relationship.
The key factor that seems to determine the amount of weight loss after a break-up is who ends the relationship, the report said.
Women who initiate the break-up tend to lose just half that of women who are dumped - shedding an average of 1.3kg in the first month of a split and 3kg if they stay single for a year.
