'Chotuskone' sensation Lagnajita Chakraborty, whose 'Basanta Ese Gechhe' tops the FM chart feels society needs to pamper it's daughters and sisters on occasions like women's day especially in a country like India where patriarchy reigns.
"Women's day can be christened as birthday for a girl and that's how it should have been in a country where the mindset needs another 100 years to change," Lagnajita, having sung the classical era track under tutelage of Anupam Roy, told PTI here.
The singer, whose playback track in Pendulum first catapulted her to limelight, feels the women's day themed celebrations all around the city was important since it reminded the people about the significance of the occasion.
"We have chosen Lagnajita as one of our ten icons as women achievers whom we have feted for their contributions in various fields - from entrepreneur Dolly Basu to actor-director Churni Ganguly. We have prepared Chinese delicacies as suggested by these ladies and the spread will be available on Women's day," a spokesperson from Buddha Bites, the Chinese cuisine restaurant said.
"My upcoming film Nirbasito also talks about the issue of woman and her solitude," Churni, the acclaimed actor having made the film based on an exiled Bangladeshi female writer, said.
