The work of dismantling the flyover in Chhatrapati Nagar on the busy Wardha road here began today, paving the way for the construction of a double- decker flyover.
The 15-year-old Chhatrapati flyover is being replaced by an ultra-modern double decker flyover from Ajni Square upto Sonegaon police station.
The 3.5 kms long flyover will carry conventional traffic and north and south corridor of the Nagpur Metro Rail.
The total cost of the new flyover will be Rs 425 crore and is set to provide more wider road space. The demolition process will take about 15 to 17 days for completion.
The NCC company in collaboration with Matte Associates will undertake the mechanical demolition work.
Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) managing director Brijesh Dixit told PTI that officials have been directed to complete the demolition work before the Winter Session of the state Legislative Assembly begins, to avoid causing any inconvenience to people.
The winter session commences from December 5.
Equipments like combicrusher, rock breaker, excavator, diamond floor saw, 40-60 tonnes crane, dust separator and other modern machinery have been brought in use to demolish the flyover.
Chief project manager (Metro) Devendra Ramtekkar and additional chief project manager Sushil Kumar are looking after the work.
Dixit said NMRCL has taken safety precautions to carry out the work and nearly 50 traffic wardens will be appointed round the clock to make proper traffic arrangements.
CCTVs will also be installed for the proper traffic arrangements on the route, he said.
NMRCL will also distribute leaflet and display sign board for commuters.
A Quick Response team has been put in place to avoid any chaos on the Wardha road and other roads in the Metro corridor, while traffic is being diverted for the next fortnight for smooth demolition of the flyover.
