Work on Vizhinjam port progressing well, says minister

: Construction work on the Vizhinjam International deep water multi-purpose seaport, developed by Gujarat based Adani group was progressing well, State Minister for Port Kadanapally Ramachandran said today.
Building of 538 meters of breakwater out of a total of 3100 meters, one of the main components of the project has been completed, he said during question hour in the assembly.
Reclamation of 15 hectares of sea out of the 53 hectares has been completed till date, he said.
A 160-metre bund had been constructed using granite as part of the berths.
The total length of berth is 800 metres, he said

The port, being built under PPP route, is one of the ambitious project of the state, being developed as a transshipment hub, to cater current largest mother vessels with a capacity of 18,000 TEU.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 7,525 crore.
