"Over 30 countries are expected to take part in these championships to be held from December 10 to 15," said Vispy Kapadia, founder president and director of the pan-India body for this style of the martial arts, which is organising the event, at a media conference today.
"We are planning to invite (retiring India batting great) Sachin Tendulkar for the inauguration," he added.
Over 700 karate exponents will be taking part in the tournament, in which Kapadia is planning to use between five and seven rings to stage the bouts.
National Sports Club of India (NSCI) representatives said that they were ready to promoting various sports at its newly built air-conditioned indoor stadium that played host to the Indian Badminton League in August.
"We are not going to charge any money for holding such events. We want to host all such sporting events in Mumbai at our stadium," said Rakesh Malhotra, the secretary of NSCI.
