WTPs at Dwarka, Bawana, Okhla to become functional soon

The water problems faced by the residents of South, South-West, West and North West-Delhi will be alleviated with water treatment plants in Dwarka, Bawana and Okhla becoming functional soon.
These water plants, which were constructed long time ago and could not be made functional because of non-receipt of raw water, will start functioning within a period of one-and-half months with water being released through the Munak Canal by Haryana, a statement issued by Delhi Jal Board (DJB) said today.
The connection of Munak Canal with Dwarka raw water pump house at Iradat Nagar has been completed by DJB as per orders of the High Court.

The water treatment plant is already under testing without load. DJB has worked out a temporary alternate alignment for the completion of lines carrying raw water from pump house to Dwarka WTP. The link which was not complete at two locations (Bhagya Vihar and Amar Colony) is being connected on war footing, without needing any demolition, under Police protection with the help of the Revenue Department of GNCTD.
In the next one month days, the treatment plant having 40 MGD capacity, which was constructed about three years ago, will be commissioned.
Bawan water treatment plant of 20 MGD capacity was constructed about 10 years ago, but remained non-functional because of non-receipt of raw water.

"It has already been put on trial run now. However, as it a very old plant, all the machineries are being tested, repaired and being made operational. Filter beds and clarifiers have been cleaned, filter media has been replaced and water is being filled for testing. This plant will be made functional within the next 20 days," said DJB.
The distribution water lines from Okhla water treatment plant which is already running at 50 per cent of its installed capacity, with recycled water of Chandrawal WTP, are being strengthened to supply filtered water supply at its designed capacity improving water supply in water deficit areas.
