Staffers at the conservation project claimed eight to nine heavily armed men had barged into the project site at Aadipora in Sopore area on August 29 and caused damage to the equipment and office premises.
"We were beaten up and several of our belongings including mobile phones were taken away by the gunmen. They also deflated the tyres of the vehicles by firing gunshots," an employee at the project said on the condition of anonymity.
Despite assurances from police for ensuring the security of the workers and the site, the work remains suspended on the project.
The work on restoration and conservation project began in December last year.
