Sandip Singh alias Shaila, a resident of New Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar, falling in Sultanwind police station of Amritsar district, police said.
Police said that he was arrested at a 'naka' (barricade) near a private university on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road.
The youth, on seeing police, tried to flee but was overpowered. A .315 bore pistol and two live cartridges were seized from his possession, they said.
His arrest was made under sections 25, 54 and 59 of Arms Act, police said.
