Additional Deputy Commissioner,Ferozepur Gurmit Singh Multani had a narrow escape on Monday when a youth took out a revolver during scrutiny of nomination papers for Zila Parishad polls.
The incident took place in the afternoon when Multani announced the rejection of nomination papers of Congress leader Gurbhej Singh Tibbi, who is also the secretary of All India Youth Congress.
This angered Sukhdev Singh, a relative of Tibbi, who allegedly took out his revolver. However, he was overpowered by the policemen present at the spot, police said.
Tibbi along with Naseeb Singh Sandhu, who are close aides of Cabinet Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi had filed their nomination papers from Jodhpur block the district. However, the papers of Tibbi were rejected.
The Congress leader claimed that his nomination was cancelled under political pressure and he was not given a valid reason for the rejection. Naseeb dismissed the allegation.
Meanwhile, Multani said the nomination was rejected based on a genuine reason and that the entire process was transparent.
