The protesters led by national president of the outfit, Amrinder Singh Brar, carried banners and placards asking the government to change its policy in this regard.
Police used water-cannons and resorted to mild use of force when the protesters tried to break barricades.
"Many of them were detained by the police and taken to Chanakyapuri Police Station from where they were released later," said a senior police official.
"On Monday, the Modi Government, in a complete U-turn from its earlier stance, filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying that Section 66A of the Information Technology Act (a law which restricts internet freedom) is a justified provision. It further claimed that on internet space 'the danger was present and clear' and internet needs to be 'restricted'," an official statement released by Youth Congress said.
He also termed that government's decision as "Anti-Youth" saying that "this government gathered votes on the name of development but is busy doing everything else".
The IYC President demanded that the government must immediately take back its affidavit supporting online censorship and amend the anti-youth Section 66A of the IT Act in the next parliament session.
