Police resorted to lathicharge after nearly 500 Youth Congress workers led by Sanjay Verma tried to cross barricades and enter Gaur's residence.
In the melee, Kamla Nagar police station in-charge, Manish Raj Singh Bhadoria, also suffered injuries while Congress sources said that a number of party workers were hurt in the police action.
Today's protest follows on the heels of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's exhortation yesterday for party workers to fight for the people and face the police.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of TT Nagar area, CM Mishra, told reporters that besides Bhadoria, two other policemen also sustained injuries during the protest.
Later, MP Congress General Secretary Govind Goyal, District Congress President PC Sharma and MP Youth Congress President Kunal Choudhary staged a sit-in before the TT Nagar police station to protest against the lathicharge.
