The accused identified as Azarhuddin, hailing from Gaya, Bihar, was caught red-handed by an ATM guard on Sunday afternoon while trying to steal money from an ATM and later handed over to police.
His arrest came after police had received information from the staff of Bank of India's Khan Market branch that its ATM was being tampered with.
CCTV footage of the ATM showed a person aged about 24-25 years entering the cabin and pouring Fevikwik on the CANCEL button of ATM's keypad.
Once the customer left the ATM, the accused would take out money from the same machine by cleaning the material using pins.
Police said the photograph of the suspect was procured and circulated to all guards of the ATM machine as well as parking attendants and beat staff of the area.
Yesterday, around 2.30 pm, Azarhuddin came to the ATM and as he tried to pour Fevikwik on the ATM buttons, the guard Ajit Das raised an alarm and informed the beat staff and he was apprehended immediately, police said.
Two Fevikwik pouches, pins were recovered from him.
Azarhuddin told police during interrogation that he came to Delhi in search a job in vain.
"He may be involved in other attempts on ATMs. Further interrogation is going on," police said.
