Youth pours acid on woman

A middle-aged woman suffered
multiple burn injuries when a youth allegedly poured acid on her at the busy Badambadi bus terminus here today.
The youth, who was overpowered by some onlookers and handed over to police, also suffered burn injuries on his hand.
Incidentally, both the accused and the victim were neighbours and belonged to the local Nayak Sahi of Mangalabag area of the city.
While the police were investigating the incident after registering a case, the accused and the victim were undergoing treatment at SCB medical college and hospital here.
Hospital sources said the 35-year-old woman suffered multiple burn injuries on her face and back, but was out of danger.

"We have booked the accused Gobind Nayak under sections 307, 326 and 34 of the IPC and investigating the case," said city DCP Sanjib Arora.

Eye witnesses said while the woman was boarding a Puri-bound bus at the bus terminus, Gobind came from behind and emptied the acid bottle on her.
Hearing her cries, some onlookers chased the youth and overpowered him.
Residents of Nayak Sahi said the families of the accused and the victim were at loggerheads and had previous rivalries.
