Youth sentenced to 15 years in jail for raping minor girl

A special court today sentenced a youth to 15 years' rigorous imprisonment for raping a Class 8 girl at Memari in Burdwan district in 2014.
The court for hearing cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act ordered imprisonment of 30-year-old Kochi Hazra for raping the girl when she was alone at her residence on January 21, 2014.
Judge Baidyanath Bhaduri convicted Hazra after forensic tests of the belongings of the girl and the accused.
Hazra had barged into the residence of the girl during late morning hours and forced himself upon her in the absence of her parents who were away in farming land.

Following complaints by the family, he was arrested in October that year.
