Youth sets himself ablaze during demolition drive in Srinagar

A demolition drive against illegal constructions in the city turned ugly today when a youth set himself ablaze to protest against the action.
The Lakes and Waterways Development Authorities (LAWDA) assisted by police started a demolition drive against the illegal constructions in Ashaibagh and Saidakadal areas on the banks of Dal Lake this morning, officials said here.
They said as the authorities were carrying out the demolition, a protest was staged against the drive and a youth identified as Manzoor Ahmad set himself on fire.
The boy was rushed to a hospital by the residents.
Details about the condition of the youth were not immediately available.
