Youth who snatched cop's rifle surrenders

A youth, who along with two associates, had snatched a rifle from the personal security officer (PSO) of a cleric in Jammu last week, has surrendered and the weapon recovered, the police said today.
Mohammad Amir, a resident of Shopian district of south Kashmir, surrendered before the police last night, a police official said.
During questioning Amir revealed that he had hid the weapon near Tawi bridge in Jammu. He was taken by a police team to Jammu where the stolen weapon was recovered, the official said.
The youth has been taken into custody for further questioning, the police official added.
On March 25, three youth Amir, Masood and Shahid, all residents of Shopian district had attacked police constable Mohammad Hanief posted as PSO of Anjuman Minhaj-e-Rasool chairman Maulana Dehlavi, near the main Tawi bridge in Jammu and decamped with his rifle.
The two other youth were arrested shortly afterwards while the police were looking for Amir before his surrender.
