Zinc prices moved up by 0.66 per cent to Rs 213.55 per kg in futures trade today as participants built up fresh positions, taking positive cues from overseas markets amid uptick in demand at spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in March went up by Rs 1.40, or 0.66 per cent, to Rs 213.55 per kg in a business turnover of 1,358 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in April contracts was trading higher by Rs 1.30, or 0.61 per cent, to Rs 213.60 per kg in 324 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by traders, in line with a firm trend overseas amid pick up in demand from consuming industries in the physical market, drove the upside in zinc prices in futures trade.

Globally, zinc for delivery in three months rose 0.8 per cent to USD 3,285 a tonne at the London Metal Exchange.
