Medium and long-dated securities were in the limelight at the wholesale debt market of the National Stock Exchange yesterday. The traded volume was Rs 456.06 crore .

The calls opened higher at 5.5 per cent and came down immediately to around five per cent at which levels most of the deals took place. Overnight money later closed in the range of 4.25 to 4.5 per cent.

The activity was brisk in the morning but came down in the latter half . It centered around the securities having medium and long-dated maturities said a money markets dealer.

The treasury bills market saw deals of Rs 40 crore of which the bills maturing in April 1998 was dealt for Rs 30 crore at yields of 8.89 per cent .

The gilts which saw active dealing were the 12.14 per cent government loan maturing 2000. This paper was dealt for Rs 100 crore at a yield of 11.46 per cent.

The 13.05 per cent government loan maturing in 2007 drew interest for Rs 40 crore at 12.52 per cent yield, the 11.75 per cent loan maturing in 2001 for Rs 45 crore at 11.73 per cent yield.

The corporate debentures segment saw trades worth Rs 5.75 crore yesterday taking place, of which the 17 per cent debentures of Punwire changed hands for Rs 5.08 crore at 16.97 per cent yield.
