According to P S Nair, regional director, AAI, the new acoustics would be benchmarked against world standards for international airports. AAI had approached Philips to help out in charting a plan. Subsequently, the Authority assigned a Singapore-based acoustics consultant to prepare a full-blown report on the revamp.

The consultant visited all the ear-marked airports in the country last month and has already tabled an initial report listing out certain interim measures. Nair said that these measures are being implemented and have not entailed any extra cost as all adjustments and improvements have been made on available equipment.

The full report would be completed in the next few days and will let AAI allocate requisite funds from its yearly Action Plan.
