The company, which operates DHL Worldwide Express courier service, is reengineering its business so as to provide under one roof a gamut of services such as inter-modal transport, warehousing, distribution of customers' products to dealers and even billing dealers on behalf of the clients.

By providing customised services such as management information services, information technology, the manufacturers can concentrate on their core business, production and sales, explains Cyrus J Guzder, chairman & managing director of Airfreight Ltd.

Guzder has mapped out a three-pronged strategy to attain this. First, in the case of DHL, the focus is changing from being merely a document carrier to delivering commercial packages like Jumbo boxes. This change will result in this division growing by 50 per cent annually in the next four years. Second, the company's Cargo division, which undertakes freight forwarding operations, is being upgraded to a multi-modal transport one. Finally, the travel division, Indtravels will cease to be just another travel agency. The company will fund this expansion through internal accruals and short-term borrowings.
