Basic Teleservices Seeks Out-Of-Court Patchup With Dot

Basic Teleservices, the RPG group telecom company, has sought an out-of-court settlement of its court case with the department of telecommunications .
The company, in a letter to the Telecom Commission, has requested the DoT to resolve the case mutually, according to a DoT official. In laymans terms it means an out of court settlement, the official said.
The company has requested the DoT to hold a meeting to arrive at an acceptable resolution which could be presented to the Delhi High Court where the case is pending. The only solution, according to the official, would be the withdrawal of the case by the company.
Basic Teleservices had won the licence to operate basic services in Tamil Nadu for which it had quoted an astronomical Rs 11,620 crore (almost $3.5 billion) in licence fees alone. Other partners, in the venture are Nippon Telephone & Telegraph and Itochu Corp, both from Japan.
