Concor Posts 37 Per Cent Increase In Turnover

The state-owned Container Corporation of India (Concor) has registered a 37.11 increase in turnover in 1996-97 compared with the figures in 1995-96.
The company's turnover has risen from Rs 389.35 crore in 1995-96 to Rs 533.83 crore in 1996-97.
Handling of the containers by the company has also gone up substantially.
The company handled 7,03,542 twenty feet equivalent units (TEUs) containers in 1996-97 against 5,94,118 TEUs in 1995-96, an increase of 18.42 per cent. These comprised containers handled in respect of both international and domestic services.
The company has diversified its services on selected domestic sectors.
A Concor spokesman said, the company recently introduced some nominated day container service called Contrack services for the carriage of general goods, grains, pulses, dairy products and similar other goods between the major cities.
More of such services are proposed to be introduced between other major commercial centres.
Also, Concor is expected to introduce its new container flat wagons on Indian Railways shortly.
The wagons are being procured by Concor under the World Bank loan scheme.
Apart from this, the company has expanded the network of its container depots, from seven inland container depots (ICDs) in 1989 to 39 now.
Besides the ICDs, the network comprises container freight stations (CFs), port side container depots (PSCTs) and domestic container terminal (DCTs).
The facilities are meant for intermodal transport operations for handling of import and export cargo in addition to the domestic cargo.
The facilities are spread all over the country.
