LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
These are the times of election manifestos, which generally show the direction in which parties would move in case they are voted to power.
Unemployment is a serious problem in the way of alleviating poverty, moreso in rural areas. In my view, political parties should give top priority to ways of tackling this problem.
If I may suggest, India has nearly 31 million Ha of degraded forestland. This is really a non-performing asset. Cant it be put to use by engaging the unemployed? I understand that it can create 26,000 million mandays per year only if it is put to plantation use. Forest produce from it could be sold in India or even exported. Is someone listening?
