NGC Corp, jockeying to become a major player in the rapidly restructuring US electric power industry, agreed on Tuesday to acquire independent power producer Destec Energy Inc. for about $1.3 billion in cash. Houston-based NGC beat 30 bidders vying for Destec and its interests in 24 power plants, executives said.
