Gestetner India Ltd (GIL), office automation equipment manufacturer, is planning to restructure its operations and marketing strategy by setting up three product-specific strategic business units (SBUs).

The move comes in the wake of stiffer competition and segmentation of the office equipment market in the country and in line with GIL's strategy to focus on return on capital, customer satisfaction and application of new technology to increase its market share.

The three SBUs will be the digital duplicator division, which will cater to the copy printers and copy printer consumables, and work out suitable marketing strategies since it depends largely on government orders.

The second SBU will be the duplicator & stencil division which will mainly cater to the low-end market, especially in the rural areas.

The third SBU or the Aficio division will be the major thrust area for GIL which will handle top-end products from Ricoh's stable _the Japanese major which has 51 per stake in GIL through its 100 per cent subsidiary, Gestetner Holdings Plc, UK.

The three SBUs will in future operate as independent profit centres and have an emphasis on customer care and after sales services.

Gestetner launched the latest computer-connected high speed 5450 and 5306 version of CopyPrinters in Calcutta yesterday.
