The LPC-D1000 is being promoted as India's first 6-in-1 DVD cassette system. This sleek, compact player facilitates DVD playing along with VCD, MP3, ACD, AM, FM, and "" surprise, surprise "" even cassette playing (for clueless youngsters who don't know about audio tapes: those are little rectangular boxes that have to be rewound or fast-forwarded).

The LPC-D1000 has power capacity of 250W PMPO and has a colourful front display. For the classic cassette playing, it has an auto reverse feature.

The XDSS (Excellent Digital Surround Sound) facility enhances the bass and gives surround effects as well. The player is available at a price of Rs 7,750.

Stop Fire!
Peeaar Exim, in association with the Thailand-based Siam Safety Premier Co, has launched a revolutionary alternative to traditional fire-fighting equipment.

The unimaginatively named "Stop Fire" is a safety ball that weighs a mere 1.3 kg "" much lighter than bulky extinguishers that are difficult to handle if you're alone when a fire breaks out.

No special training is required, all you need to do is throw it into the fire.

The ball will burst within three seconds of coming in contact with fire; if that sounds dangerous, relax, what it does is produce fireproof chemicals like non-chlorofluorocarbon foam which dampen the flame and suck up the oxygen that keeps the fire burning. The chemicals are environment-friendly and pose no threat to life.

If a fire occurs when no one is present, the ball self-activates and sets off a fire alarm.
