Greaves Ltd, the engineering arm of the Thapar Group, is launching 15 new engineering products in various sectors. These sectors include the automotive, power, oil field, construction and mining areas.
In the automotive sector, the Rs 700-crore Greaves Ltd is launching its six seater diesel 3-wheeler, 4-stroke petrol three -wheeler and tractors.
The company has a technical collaboration with SAME of Italy to produce tractors in the higher end 454 HP segment.
Greaves is also introducing a 380 KVA model diesel generating set which has been indigenously developed in its Research and Development Centre at Chinchwad.
Besides launching another indigenously designed AM 175 gear box in its line of power transmission equipment, it is also introducing a 10 HP diesel engine for FRP Catamarans, which are used in deep sea fishing.
The company is also negotiating with Mitsubishi and Parkins, among other global engineering majors, for a collaboration to produce high powered generation sets.
This is part of the Rs 200-crore expansion plan that the company has drawn up which is to be executed over the next five years.
The Thapar company had earlier entered into negotiations with Sulzer of Sweden for a collaboration in its proposed project.
However, talks had subsequently fallen through after the two companies failed to arrive at a consensus regarding the nature of the collaboration.
The proposed generation sets would be in the range of 2 to 5 kilowatts of power.
An investment of around Rs 20 crore has been earmarked for the new project. Sources revealed that Greaves might set up a new company with its foreign collaborator to produce this range of high powered generation sets.
Company sources said that plans are on anvil to gradually produce generation sets in the higher range of 625 KVA.
The other new products being introduced by the company include a range of roller bits, silicon carbide resin bonded crucibles and centrifugal pumps. Greaves has a collaboration with Peerless of USA for split casing centrifugal pumps.
