Ikos To Buy Design Tech From Delsoft

IKOS Systems Inc, a major US provider of design verification solutions, will buy electronic design automation (EDA) technology from Noida-based Delsoft India Pvt Ltd, a 100 per cent export oriented software development unit.

With this, IKOS will nearly double its engineering resources and gain access to Delsofts expertise in language-based simulation.

Based in California, IKOS Systems Inc is leader in providing design verification solutions including hardware and software simulation for language-based design, logic emulation for hardware and software co-verification and consulting services.

IKOS supports direct sales operations in the UK, France, Germany, Japan besides North America. The US major has also announced its decision to establish an research and development facility in India which will be a wholly owned subsidiary of IKOS Systems Inc, US.

The subsidiary in India will be headed by Jyotirmoy Daw, the current CEO of Delsoft.

Robert Hum, vice-president, marketing, of IKOS commented that the research and development team at Delsoft combined with IKOS US operations is expected to give the US major an edge in the development of high performance design verification solutions. We look forward to integrating the India team into our operation and to delivering a significant new products, he said.

Daw said the agreement with IKOS comes as a recognition of the significant EDA expertise developed by Delsoft.

It also underscores the role that Indian IT companies are playing in bringing new technologies to the global software industry, he said.

Besides specialising in software development for electronic design automation, Delsoft also has expertise in development of ASIC design and multimedia software. The company has research and development centres at Noida and the software technology park in Calcutta.

Set up in 1996 the Rs 2 crore company aims to reach a turnover of Rs 10 crore within the next year. The company's products are marketed through Interra Inc.

The technology acquisition provides expansion capabilities for the company in three areas namely fast functional verification, application specific solutions and IP modelling.

According to IKOS president and chief executive officer, Ramon Nunez, The acquisition of EDA technology from Delsoft is part of IKOS long-term strategy to address the evolving needs of customers. The acquisition enhances our ability to respond to industry changes with innovative products and solutions, Nunez said.
