Kemna Group Lines Up $35m Investment

The Germany-based DM 6 billion Kemna Group plans to invest around $35 million in India for setting up an assembling plant in Bangalore to market laser and laser-related products to be used in industrial applications.

The group is also eyeing opportunities in other sectors in India, like infrastructure, for the construction of roads, flyovers, buildings, etc.

The Kemna Group has diversified interests in construction, quarry, railways, mining, etc. The other major companies of the group include Kemna Bau, Kemna Tiefbau, Kemna Strassenbau, Kemna Machinebau, etc.

The proposed plant will be set up in Bangalore by Kemna Electronics GmBH, part of the Kemna group. According to N P Meegoda, vice president, Kemna Group, the company expected a sales revenue of Rs 35 crore during the first year of operation and, subsequently, Rs 85 crore next year.

According to him, the plant is expected to come up within a year. The company is scouting for a two-acre plot in and around Bangalore.

Kemna Electronics' product range includes laser diode modules, line generators and lens systems, infrared high power laser diodes, communications laser diodes and photodetectors, industrial and information laser diodes, etc.

These products find applications in hi-tech sectors like car and automobile industry, communications, electronics and computers, heavy machinery, construction, shipyards, and tyre industry.

The green and red positioning lasers manufactured by Kemna will be targetted at industries like granite, textile, garments, stone, marble, and wood, Meegoda said.

According to Thoma, managing director, production, the green laser altogether changed the existing laser market as it is much more advanced and beneficial than the red laser. It has a high wavelength and a higher visibility of five to eight times compared to red laser, he said.
