Led by ITC and HLL most prominent counters staged a moderate recoveryon the Calcutta Stock Exchange over its previous closing levels, on revival of speculative cum investment buying support.

Subsequently few of the specified and cash list counters which encountered fresh pressure, drifted to lower levels. However, the close disclosed overall gains. The CSE -50 index surged ahead to a high at 107.30 before closing at 107.08 gaining 1.28 points.

In the specified list ITC flared up to close at Rs 477.90 and HLL at Rs 1144 and Tata Tea at Rs 321.10. Among other gaining counters were ACC, finishing at Rs 1087, CESC at Rs 41.40, L&T at Rs 214.90, RIL at Rs 304.00, SBI new at Rs 316, Telco at Rs 391.50 and Tisco at Rs 175.30.

Among other counters Bata declined to Rs 100, BOC to Rs 69.50, Gujarat Ambuja to Rs 280 and Shaw Wallance to Rs 42. In the cash list counters Colgate finished at Rs 275 with ITC Classic at Rs 20.20, OCTL at Rs 42 and Woolworth at Rs 25.
