Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has admitted his inability to enforce prohibition in the state.
Stating that the drylaw would have to be reviewed, Naidu said we will place all facts before you, seek your opinion and then only take a decision at the appropriate time. Naidu was addressing the Legislative Assembly on Monday evening.
This is the first time in the past eight months that a move to relax the prohibition law has been mooted by the ruling party.
Naidu said despite having deputed officials to ensure the enforcement of the law, smuggling and bootlegging of liquor was rampant.
If we allow things to pass, mafia will soon take control of politics, he cautioned.
The Chief Minister said the government had hoped that the ban would ensure improvement of peoples health instead it ended up having a negative affect as it led to the flow of illicit and adulterated liquor.
He said the government was prepared to take harsh decisions in the overall interest of the people. The next three years were free from elections and he proposed to concentrate on the development of the state.
