A security suite can be a life-saver in these trying times. And it’s even better if it comes with cloud storage and a password manager. Thankfully, Norton Security Premium 2017 (Rs 4,599 for 10 devices, but deep discounts available online) comes with both and it isn’t a resource hog.
To start with, one needs to set up a Norton account and add one’s key to it. Then, one can download the software. I started off on a PC running Windows 10, and from there could send a link to the other devices via email. Installation (on any device) didn’t take too long, but do update the virus definitions once you install the software. I quite liked the password manager on the PC (sadly, it isn’t available for the Mac) and the rather intuitive and non-obtrusive interface. And Norton’s Safe Web feature makes identifying unsafe website a cakewalk, classifying search queries by safety. Best of all, the performance of the PC didn’t take a hit.
On an Android phone, the software adds an extra layer of protection, letting one know if the app on the Play Store was safe or not. And yes, one can locate, lock or wipe one’s device. Sadly, the protection is rather basic for iOS — you can locate the device, but you can’t lock or wipe it. On a Mac, one gets most elements of the PC suite, sans the password manager.
I’ve been using security software from Symantec since the turn of the century and can say that with the years, the software has become lighter and better. Norton Security Premium is no different.
