The midcap index closed at 1065.14 points over Mondays close of 1061.69 points, gaining 3.45 points. The total turnover recorded at NSE was Rs 1205.03 crore, involving 508.58 lakh shares.
Hectic trading was observed at ITC (Rs 391.62 crore), SBI (Rs 313.01 crore), RIL (Rs 248.31 crore), Tisco (Rs 89.97 crore), L&T (Rs 55.78 crore) ACC (Rs 40.85 crore), Gujarat Ambuja Cement (Rs 24.61 crore), Telco (Rs 24.12 crore),BSES (Rs 11.83 crore), MTNL (Rs 10.88 crore), Bajaj Auto (Rs 6.39 crore), Oriental Bank (Rs 4.32 crore), Tata Power (Rs 2.92 crore), IPCL (Rs 2.88 crore), M&M (Rs 1.99 crore), Hindustan Lever (Rs 1.88 crore), Hindalco (Rs 1.65 crore), Hitechi Jewellery (Rs 1.35 crore), NIIT (Rs 1.26 crore), Colgate (Rs 1.1 crore), Bharat Petroleum (Rs 1.07 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 1.03 crore), Sterlite (Rs 1 crore), IFC (Rs 0.82 crore) and ONGC (Rs 0.78 crore) counters.
Top five gainers were Vippy Industries Ltd, Montari Industries Ltd, Ponni Sugars and Chemical, Best and Crompton Ltd and Agro Dutch Foods Ltd, while losers were Arihant Cotsyn Ltd, Denmur Fax Roll Ltd, Indo Biotech Food, East West Travel and KHSL Industries Ltd. Shares prices declined marginally on lack of buying support from financial institutional investors and bull operators on Over The Counter Exchange of India (OTCEI).
The OTC composite index opened at 95.1 points, touched the days high of 95.14 points and closed at 94.55 points as against previous close of 95.11 points, suffering a loss of 0.56 points. The total turnover recorded at OTC was Rs 20.36 lakh, involving 79,175 shares and debentures. Major contribution was from the listed equity segment contributing Rs 11.55 lakh. And the listed debentures contribution was 8.79 lakh. Active trading was witnessed at K R Rubberite counter the major gainer was Pondicherry Spinners, while the loser was Kothari Polymers.
