NSE REPORT
The trading sentiment on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) firmed up further on account of hectic buying by the foreign institutional investors (FIIs), coupled with front running by punters.
The 50-share NSE index shot up by 22.75 points to close at 1,273.15 points over the previous close of 1,250.40 points. Market players anticipated the index to slump as yesterday was the last day of the current settlement. The Nifty opened at 1,250.50, touched a high of 1,275.45, dipped to a low of 1,249.70 points, before closing at 1,273.15 points.

The Midcap index closed at 1,370.05 points, registering a gain of 16.30 points over the previous close of 1,353.75 points. The index opened at 1,354.10 went to a high of 1,372.50 and a low of 1,354.10 before closing at 1,370.05 points. The total traded turnover on the exchange touched Rs 2,302.98 crore with over 8.39 crore shares changing hands.
Among the top five gainers were, Indo Gulf Fertilisers at Rs 46.10 (Rs 43.05), Reliance Capital at Rs 81.55 (Rs 76.20), Cochin Refineries at Rs 158.90 (Rs 148.50), ACC at Rs 1661.75 (Rs 1557.05), Tata Chemicals at Rs 210.65 (Rs 198.75).
Among the top five losers were, Asian Paints at Rs 329.05 (Rs 353.65), ICICI at Rs 102.95 (Rs 106.95), Indian Hotels at Rs 509.65 (Rs 612.35), Essar Steel Rs 28.60 (Rs 29.60), Grasim at Rs 381.10 (Rs 391.30). The ITC scrip topped the list of securities that recorded the highest turnover.
The scrip closed at Rs 578.45 (Rs 546.40), a gain of 5.87 per cent. The total traded turnover at this counter touched Rs 906.38 crore. The RIL counter recorded a turnover of Rs 348.24 crore, closing at Rs 371 over the previous close of Rs 362.85.
Meanwhile, on the Over the Counter Exchange of India, the composite index closed at 123.45, a decrease of 3.28 over its previous days close. The total turnover was at Rs 49.58 lakh, involving 2.66 lakh shares and debentures.
Major contribution was from listed equity contributing Rs 47.27 lakh (2.63 lakh). In listed equity active trading was witnessed in IIS Infotech where 1.61 lakh shares were traded.
