Sabre International and Sitar, an Indian Airlines and Air India joint venture for reservation facility, have collaborated with Delhi-based ResNet to provide domestic hotel reservation facility to their users in India.

Sabre International is one of the largest distribution systems and a world leader in travel technology and electronic distribution of travel and travel related products. It is used by over 29,000 travel agencies worldwide and is distributed throughout India by Sitar.

The contract was signed last week by Jamshed Abdullah, Sabre regional manager (Asia-Pacific) and Raj S Menon and B Chatterjee, directors of Team Four Hospitality Services Pvt Ltd, operators of the ResNet facility.

ResNet has identified around 80 cities which need to be brought under its coverage. Since IA connects the maximum number of cities in the country and its reservation facility provides the largest territorial spread providing access to this immense market potential, this alliance will provide value addition for the end user.

The facility of Sitar is available today from over 34 Indian cities and is used by over 400 active agents providing the largest territorial spread by any CRS facility within India.

ResNet is one of the first indigenous on-line central reservation system for hotels in India, operated in technical collaboration with the Indonet division of CMC Ltd. The database of ResNet presently gives information on a cross-section of over 150 hotels selected from 52 Indian cities.

Sabre Internet has also entered into a contract with ResNet for it to be an associate member within the Sabre network system.

This alliance would mean that all ResNet member hotels will be set up as an associate chain in the Sabre system, thus allowing all travel agencies using Sitar the facility to also reserve hotel accommodation.
