The facility, which is expected to start commercial production by second half of 1998, will have the capacity to manufacture 0.8 crore CDT per annum of which nearly 60 per cent will be exported.
The proposed plant near Madras will be the only CDT manufacturing facility in India.
The investment will be met through internal accruals and equities, Satish Kaura, chairman of Samtel Colour, told newpersons.
The technical contract is valid for a period of seven years.
Colour display tubes are technologically superior to colour picture tubes and are an important component in the manufacture of colour monitors.
Parameters like resolution, sharpness and colour in the monitor depend on the colour display tube being used.
