Scrips Gain On Buying Support

The last day of the current settlement on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) saw the 50-share Nifty index closing at 1138.80 points, a gain of 9.10 points against the previous close of 1129.70 points.
The total traded turnover on the exchange touched Rs 2,017.85 crore with 7.07 crore shares changing hands.
According to sources, the market witnessed hectic activity with key pivotals closing higher than their previous close. The market bounced back on buying support from both the FIIs and the domestic institutions, informed an NSE dealer.
The ITC counter saw huge volumes though the scrip closed lower than its previous close. The scrip closed at Rs 489.40 against the previous close of Rs 496.80. The total turnover at this counter touched Rs 605.13 crore.
The State Bank of India counter witnessed huge volumes and the scrip closed at Rs 323 against the previous close of Rs 312.25.
The price of the scrip had witnessed a sharp fall during the previous days trading despite the fact that it had entered the no delivery period. The total traded turnover in this counter touched Rs 361.11 crore.
Among the top five gainers were Great Eastern Shipping which closed at Rs 38.20 against the previous close of Rs 35.75, Oriental Bank of Commerce at Rs 83.05 (Rs 78.15), Mahindra & Mahindra at Rs 415.95 (Rs 395.10), Reliance Capital at Rs 51.85 (Rs 49.40) and ACC at Rs 1191.60 (Rs 1141.20).
Market sources also informed that volumes at the ICI counter has witnessed sharp rise in the past two trading days. The economy scrips including L&T, ACC and Gujarat Ambuja also witnessed heavy buying. The movement of these scrips are economy specific and with the economy in good shape, these scrips are doing well, informed a Mumbai-based equity analyst.
Tata Tea continued its bullish run and the scrip closed at Rs 374.50 against the previous close of Rs 360.45. Among the major losers were Cochin Refineries which closed at Rs 149.25 against the previous close of Rs 157.50, HPCL at Rs 435.65 (Rs 451.85).
