Scrips Improve Marginally

The trading sentiment on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) improved further on account on speculative activity by the punters. The NSE-50 index closed 8.80 points higher at 1073.75 against the previous close of 1064.95 points.
The Midcap index closed at 1116.90 points against the previous close of 1118.40 points. The trading volumes touched Rs 2045.78 crore with nearly 7.36 crore shares changing hands. Market sources said the market went up as the punters were active on better sentiment. Only select FIIs were active yesterday. The domestic institutions were selling in B1 group, a NSE dealer said.
Among the top five gainers were Cochin Refineries which closed at Rs 153.95 (Rs 148.80), HLL at Rs 1187.15 (Rs 1149.25), HDFC Bank, Rs 61.15 (Rs 59.30), Essar Steel Rs 12.55 (Rs 12.20), Nestle Rs 266.20 against the previous close of (Rs 258.85). The top five losers were, Great Eastern Shipping, at Rs 30.15 against the previous close of Rs 31.75, MRPL, at Rs 16.30 (Rs 16.90), Ranbaxy at Rs 578.85 (597.30), IPCL Rs 116.45 (Rs 119.45), M&M at Rs 340.75 (Rs 346.10).
Tata Tea counter continued to be in the limelight and hit the filter circuit both on the BSE and NSE. It closed at Rs 313.35 against the previous close of Rs 318.20. The trading volume at this counter touched Rs 14.51 crore. ITC scrip topped the list of securities which recorded the highest turnover. The scrip closed at Rs 473.70 (Rs 483.55), the traded turnover touched Rs 700.15 crore. Meanwhile, share prices declined marginally on the Over the Counter Exchange (Otcei) yesterday. The composite index opened at 80.87 and closed at 80.86 showing a decrease of 0.31 points over the previous close of 81.17.
The total turnover was Rs 13.54 lakh involving 26,940 shares and debentures. Major contribution was from the listed debentures contributing Rs 9.33 lakh (7.400 debentures). Among the other segments listed equity contributed Rs 3.45 lakh (19,090 shares), permitted equity contributed 0.75 lakh (450 shares).
In listed equities active trading was witnessed in Renewable Energy Systems where 5,000 shares were traded and in the listed debentures segment BPL debentures were actively traded.
