Sipanis Taken Into Custody, Released

The father-son duo of R K Sipani and Dinesh Sipani, of Sipani Automobiles, against whom over 100 non-bailable warrants have been issued by the courts of law across the country, were apprehended by the city police to present them before courts to face charges.

Sipani Automobiles is involved in the manufacture of Rover range of luxury cars.

The Sipanis have been avoiding arrest for a long time, said city police spokesperson. Terming the move as securing the offender for presentation before the courts and not an arrest, he said almost all cases of cheating were against their failure to deliver luxury cars against advance booking. Police said the Sipanis owed over Rs 20 crore to the public as booking amount alone.

The Sipanis had started making the Dolphin range of two-door cars in the Seventies. Five years later, they entered into an alliance with the UK-based Rovers to make both diesel and petrol versions of the Rover range of luxury cars. When Sipani Automobiles launched its roadshows for its Rover range of cars across the country, the company was able to mobilise a large amount as advance monies.
