Solar-Based Traffic Lights Inaugurated

A solar system to energise traffic lights has been inaugurated in the Capital. The system will take over whenever there is power failure. It will also be used in the traffic lights for a fixed duration every evening, to save electricity during peak hours.
Inaugurating the system, minister of state for railways, parliamentary affairs, planning and programme implementation, Ram Naik, said solar power was an admirable solution to the problems of power failure at traffic intersections where it was not possible to run generators. Naik said the ministry for non-conventional energy sources would take up a pilot project this year in Delhi to demonstrate the viability of solar generators.
