Steam Locomotives

Steam traction on Indian railways will be replaced by diesel traction by the end of next month and steam locomotives phased out under a perspective plan of the railways. However, about 40 steam locomotives will remain to be phased out by the middle of 1997-98 in the western railway mostly in the Gujarat sector, an official release here yesterday said.
