Trading Sentiment Improves

The trading sentiment on the National Stock Exchange (NSE)improved mainly on account of speculative activity at some of the key pivotals. The NSE-50 index closed at 1081.10 against the previous close of 1074.65, a gain of 6.45 points. The Midcap index closed at 1135.55 points against the previous close of 1135.55 points, a gain of 2.25 points.
Market sources informed that the Reliance scrip hogged the limelight and it closed at Rs 313.60 against the previous close of Rs 308.90. The total traded turnover at the exchange touched Rs 341.40 crore mainly on account of rumours of a bonus issue.
The sentiment is bullish and the market is expected to further move up in the days to come, said Jaydeep Mehta, an NSE dealer.
The Spic scrip also witnessed hectic activity and there were only buyers at this counter yesterday. The scrip hit the circuit filter on the upper side at Rs 20.05.
The traded turnover during yesterdays trading touched Rs 1,378.87 crore with nearly 5.56 crore shares changing hands.
Among the top five gainers of the day were, Essar Steel which closed at Rs 12.25 against the previous close of Rs 11.95, Indian Hotels which closed at Rs 600 against the previous close of Rs 630, Mahindra and Mahindra at Rs 356.45 (Rs 343.60), MTNL at Rs 287.10 (Rs 277.60) and ACC at Rs 1085.35 (Rs 1053.60).
According to market sources, FIIs made heavy purchases in MTNL and HLL among other select counters. Among the top five losers of the day were Great Eastern Shipping which Rs 33.10 against the previous close of Rs 34.70, Tata Chemicals at Rs 151.75 (Rs 155.85), BHEL at Rs 399.90 (Rs 410.40), Asian Paints at Rs 286.65 (Rs 291.50), and Hindalco at Rs 931.50 (Rs 946).
Meanwhile, equity prices showed a further fall on sustained selling pressure from investors on the Over the Counter Exchange of India (Otcei) yesterday.
The OTC composite index opened easier at 79.34 and after moving in a narrow range dipped to a low of 78.73 and closed at 79.36, showing a decline of 0.55 from the previous close of 79.91.
